WORKSHOP: "FIRST PLAY. THEN EXIST"
WITH ALEX NAVARRO (Spain)
THE TEACHER: Alex Navarro has dedicated himself to the world of clown since 1996. He has performed in his own shows in more than 15 countries (16 to be exact) in 3 continents. He has also been a Cirque du Soleil clown (“Mystere” 1998/2000, Las Vegas - USA). He has taught regular courses in Spain and internationally (Portugal, Alemania, Israel, USA, Puerto Rico, Perú, Mexico) for the past 14 years. He is also the Artistic Director of the Cornellà International Festival of Clowns (www.festivaldepallassos.com).
“Clowns are not characters, they are people, the most human of human beings. Their philosophy is simple: when I take most pleasure in what I am doing, the audience also takes most pleasure. The clown will appear if you are prepared to play, if you let your body enter into the games of rhythm and exaggeration, if you let your emotions flow in games of expression and communication, if you open your heart to laughter and vulnerability, and most of all, if you are honest."
THE WORKSHOP: A mixture of the best of the workshops Navarro has taught since 1998. We will work with failure and pleasure, exaggeration, complicity between the clowns and the audience, and with status. Your clown will burst out forcefully if you let it. The workshop is aimed at people with some prior experience of clowning, whether at a basic or professional level. Minimum age is 18. The objective is to reinforce your own clown, to gain practical tools for being on stage, learn to use impulses that come from your scene partner or from the audience, and to know more about various clown games.
WORKSHOP: "CLOWNCHING" (CLOWN AND COACHING)
CLOWN AS A TOOL FOR TRANSFORMATION
CLOWN AS A TOOL FOR TRANSFORMATION
WITH FERNANDO CORDOVA HERNANDEZ and MARCELA LÓPEZ TREVIÑO (México)
THE TEACHERS: Fernando Córdova and Marcela López are the co-founders of Inhala, and organization which aims to promote harmonious development in organization health through art. One of their main techniques is clown, which has surprising results. "Clownching" allows the individual to speak, to do, and to feel, without fear of what others will say. We begin little by little to remove our masks, learning to adopt more flexible and stable attitudes, and in few words be able to be whatever you want without judgment.
THE WORKSHOP: This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to change the way they see the world, and discover through their clown persona a new vision and a new perspective on life. It's designed for anyone and everyone, not only those in the artistic sphere, such as actors or people who want to dedicate themselves to clowning. In the pleasure of showing yourself just as you are we will discover new distinctions and fundamental practices for living, finding congruence between your language, emotions, and body, via various artistic techniques. You will acquire some basic concepts of ontological coaching through the discovery of your personal clown. Maximum age is 18.
General Objectives:
- To raise the level of consciousness
- To do, speak, and feel, without fear
- To develop listening and communication
- To accept and know yourself
- To awaken corporeal awareness
- To learn to have and project presence
- To develop high self-esteem, stability and flexibility.
WORKSHOP: JOURNEY TOWARDS THE WORLD OF YOUR CLOWN.
WITH BARNABY KING (UK)
THE TEACHER: Barnaby King, actor, teacher, and clown director. As clown performaer he achieved critical acclaim with his recent show "Flawed Genius," which toured the UK, North and South America, including performances at the New York Clown Festival and Mimame Festival in Medellin. He is dedicated not only to the practice of clown, but its theory and research, and he is currently affiliated with Northwestern University in Chicago where he is undertaking research on clowning and social change in Latin America.
THE WORKSHOP: In the introductory intensive workshop you will begin the journey toward the world of your personal clown. Through deep and personal guidance you will find opportunities to confront your own strengths and weaknesses and thereby learn the basis of clowning: what does it mean to truly be in front of an audience and connect with them.
Through games and group exercises what it means to play in connection with another person or with your audience, accepting the gifts that the "Clown gods" offer you. In a safe space you will develop new material and make the most creative discoveries.
